Additional Garden Club Federation of PA Scholarships
JANE LAYMAN SCHOLARSHIP – A minimum of $1,000 annually for 4 years - Scholarship is available to a High School Senior, every four years. A 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) must be maintained to keep this scholarship enforced. By February 1st, the recipient must send his/her scholastic record to the State Scholarship Chairperson. Failure to comply will result in loss of the remaining money. Should the recipient forfeit by dropping out of school or not maintaining a 3.0 GPA, a new winner will be selected the following year.
KATHERINE L. RIEGER SCHOLARSHIP is available to a College Student or Post Graduate College Student with a GPA of at least 3.25 (on a 4.0 scale). Applicants may apply in their sophomore year. The state winner will compete for one of the National Garden Clubs, Inc. Scholarships of $3,500.
CONSTANCE H. SMITH SCHOLARSHIP is available to a College Student or a Post Graduate College Student each year. Applicants may apply in their freshman year.
MIRIAM A. STEEL SCHOLARSHIP is available to a High School Senior. Preference will be given to a High School Gardener, FFA, 4-H, or Scout group by the addition of two (2) points to the final evaluation of that individual’s score.
EDITH CLEMMER STEINBRIGHT SCHOLARSHIP is available to High School Seniors, College Students and Post Graduate College Students each year. Preference will be given to a student from the southeastern part of the state.
DOREEN DEW KAUFFMAN SCHOLARSHIP is a $1,000 grant given annually for ten years, 2012- 2021, to a deserving student in a horticulture-related field. This scholarship is available to high school seniors, college students and post-graduate college students each year.
DOROTHY A. HERMANI SCHOLARSHIP is a $1,000 grant given annually for ten years, 2017-2026, to a deserving student in a horticulture-related field. This scholarship is available to high school seniors, college students and post-graduate students each year.
AUDUBON GRANT - $500 Grant is available to a Federated Garden Club Member, a Teacher, or a College Student for the Audubon Camp of his/her choice. A Garden Club Member may receive this grant. The winner is responsible for his/her transportation and any increase in fees. The sponsoring Garden Club may pay additional fees, if they desire. The State Chairperson must receive all applications by Feb.1st .

Details:
One-year scholarships are available to juniors, seniors and graduate students.
EqualOpportunity shall be provided to all applicants.
Sophomores may apply for their junior year.
College/university must be accredited and listed on the official website of the U.S. Department of Education http://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/Search.asp
Amount: Up to 41 NGC Scholarships are available, each in an amount up to $4,000. The number and amount of scholarships will be determined annually.
Deadline: February 1, 2023
Eligibility: Applications under the following conditions are not eligible:
International or Foreign Exchange Students.
Doctoral program students.
Study abroad on fellowships or internships.
Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Legal Resident of the United States.
Must be attending school full-time as defined by NGC:
Undergraduate students must be enrolled for a minimum of 12 graded hours of classes.
Graduate students must be enrolled for a minimum of 9 graded hours of classes.
Eligibility (cont):
Funds may be applied to studies overseas provided that the study is a condition of the recipient’s degree plan and that payment continues to be made to the accredited U.S. college or university.
Must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 (on a 4.0 scale).
Must be planning a career related to gardening, landscape design, environmental issues, floral design or horticulture.
Previous applicants may re-apply (whether awarded or not).
Must be majoring in one of the following fields of study: Agronomy, Agriculture Education, Floriculture, Horticulture, Landscape Design, Botany, Biology, Forestry, Wildlife Science, Plant Pathology/Science, City (Rural & Urban) Planning, Habitat or Forest/Systems Ecology, Environmental Concerns (Management: Environmental, Horticulture Resource/Environmental Behavior) Environmental Conservation (inc. Engineering, etc.), Land Management and/or other related or allied subjects.
