On August 12 at 11 am, please join us to honor all Gold Star families as we dedicate the first Gold Star Memorial Marker in the State of Pennsylvania.

SGC will host the GC of Johnstown at the Children’s Aid Home in Somerset on July 8. Tours of the facility will start at 11 am, with lunch to follow at noon. GCFP 2nd VP Tonya Young will demonstrate NGC designs.

All SGC members participate in placing greens in hayracks and planters throughout uptown Somerset.

Join us for our annual Fall Luncheon where District VI Director Deb Stumpf will demonstrate how to make a lighted garden ball. Entrants for the Amanda E. Dowie dried flower arrangement should arrive by 11:30 am.

Roni Murali of the Garden Club of Johnstown will demonstrate her favorite pressed flowers, and show us how to use them in such things as invitations and plaques, etc.

After our busines meeting and lunch at the excellent Forbes Trail Brewing, we will be touring Patriot Park located next door. Patriot Park - which is dedicated to all post-9/11 veterans and their families - is the location of our most recent Blue Star memorial.

Speaker Lori Beard will introduce us to organic hydroponic gardening. Following lunch, we are invited to tour “Eliza’s” hydroponic gardens where there is shopping and SEADS!

Annual planting in uptown Somerset takes place in various locations throughout the town.

Alternatives to Floral Foam - Andrea Falchek. With the environmental concerns caused by floral foam, designers are under pressure to find alternatives. We’ll learn some “old school”, and some modern alternatives to using foam in our designs.
